Grant Brings Art and Transit Together

INDIANAPOLIS — A $50,000 grant from Transportation for America will activate artists for community engagement projects along Red Line Rapid Transit Corridor and during Purple Line Rapid Transit planning
Transit Drives Indy and the Arts Council of Indianapolis have partnered on a long-term initiative called 3C Indy. The mission of 3C Indy is to create a new culture of public transit in Indianapolis by activating artists and arts partners through a multi-year creative placemaking program. 3C Indy is designed to educate and engage communities, and promote and monitor progress throughout the implementation of the Marion County Transit Plan.
For 2018, plans include artistically impacting the Red Line Rapid Transit during the construction period and to include an artistic element in the planning of the Purple Line Rapid Transit.
3C Indy is requesting qualifications from artists or artist teams who are interested in aesthetically engaging community members and each other on temporary projects for IndyGo’s new Red Line Rapid Transit. Five artists will each receive a commission fee of $5,000 plus a materials/supplies allowance of up to $5,000. Projects will take place between May and December 2018. The deadline for submissions is Monday, November 27, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

3C Indy is also seeking an artist-in-residence for the Purple Line Rapid Transit project. The resident artist will receive $10,000 for approximately six months of part-time engagement. The artist or artist team will focus on aesthetically engaging community members to help plan for the public transit line. The deadline for submissions is Monday, November 27, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
