From The Indianapolis Star, Tuesday, June 12: The Navy League comforts committee held its first knitting class at League headquarters, 40 Monument Circle yesterday. A large number of women were in attendance and enthusiastic to learn to knit so they might make articles that will aid in the comfort of bluejackets while they are at sea on war patrols. Daily knitting instruction will be offered at the headquarters for women who wish to learn to knit wristlets, mufflers, and sweater vests for the sailors. The young women at L. S. Ayres & Co department store have formed a unit of the comforts committee, and local branch officials hope similar units will be formed in other stores, clubs and institutions. Yarn and needles are sold by the local comforts committee at cost to those who wish to knit articles of comfort.
