Lawrence Police, Flanner & Buchanan Provide Bikes for Explorers

LAWRENCE – Lawrence Police Chief David Hofmann recently accepted the generous donation of four customized Cannondale bicycles from Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers, demonstrating their continuing support for the Lawrence Police Department (LPD) and LPD’s Boy Scout Explorer Post. Flanner and Buchanan, which also owns Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services, has a long history of philanthropic contribution to the Lawrence community. The presentation was held in the lobby of the Lawrence Government Center in December.
The bicycles will be used by LPD’s Explorer Scouts primarily during special events, such as parades, marathons, National Night Out, and Lawrence’s annual 4th of July celebration. The Explorer Scouts will also participate in ride-a-longs with LPD’s Bicycle Patrol officers.
“Flanner and Buchanan is excited to support one of the premiere Explorer Scout Post’s in Indiana, Lawrence Police Post 160,” said Tony Lloyd, President of Flanner and Buchanan. “Flanner and Buchanan have long sponsored youth bicycle helmet and safe bicycle riding initiatives, helping to ensure Hoosier children have the necessary items and skills for safe riding. This partnership represents a natural progression to these initiatives, providing these incredible Explorer Scouts with four terrific bicycles for use during their activities,” added Bruce Buchanan, owner of the Flanner and Buchanan, along with Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services.
Lawrence Police Department Chief of Police David Hofmann recognized Flanner and Buchanan for their generosity, stating, “Thanks to partnering with Flanner and Buchanan, these bicycles add an exciting component to our Explorer Scout program, the ability to train with and participate in bicycle patrol-related activities. Lawrence residents should look for our Explorer Scouts riding these bicycles during community events throughout Lawrence and the East Side. When paired with our Bicycle Patrol Officers, these facilitate excellent mobility, visibility, and interaction with the citizens we serve, consistent with the community-policing guiding principles we have long enjoyed in Lawrence,” Chief Hofmann continued. “We’re very grateful for Flanner and Buchanan’s generosity and support of our Explorer Scouts,” Chief Hofmann concluded.
Lawrence Police Chief David Hofmann, Flanner and Buchanan President/Chief Operating Officer Tony Lloyd, and Owner Bruce Buchanan were joined by several Lawrence Police Explorer Scouts, who displayed, demonstrated, and rode their new bicycles.
