Hoosiers Are Going to the Foster Farms Bowl

It has been confirmed that the Indiana University Fighting Hoosier Football team will meet the Utah University Utes December 28th in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, CA at Levi’s Stadium. The Hoosiers were 6-6 on the season and the Utes were 8-4. Ute coach Kyle Whittingham had his team at 7-1 at one point but the team went 4-5 in conference place and finished 3rd in the Pac 12 South Division. The Hoosiers went 6-6 during the regular season, including a 4-5 in Big Ten play to finish third in the Big Ten’s Eastern Division.
Levi’s Stadium is where the San Francisco 49ers play their home NFL games. This bowl game is in it’s 14th season and it’s 3rd as the Foster Farms Bowl. It is known as the “Fight Hunger Bowl” the ”Emerald Bowl” and the “San Francisco Bowl.” Last year Nebraska upset UCLA 37-29. This will be a chance for you football fans to see the Hoosier’s sophomore linebacker sensation Tegray Scales. The Cincinnati Ohio player is listed as 6 feet tall and 227 pounds. He led the team with 115 tackles including 20.5 for losses. Pro scouts are already salivating at the thought of him in the 2018 draft.
You may recall that last week I congratulated IU’s Head Coach Kevin Wilson on his achievement of taking the Hoosiers to two straight bowl appearances. Between that time and this writing Coach Wilson was forced to resign primarily due to player treatment issues. Coach Wilson is alleged to have verbally and physically abused certain players to the point of even making them play when hurt. He is also accused of verbally abusing and threatening staff members and even some faculty members. — sort of a Bobby Knight clone. Anyway, defensive coordinator Tom Allen has taken on the head coaching duties for the bowl game at any rate. The Weekly View wishes Coach Ton Allen and his Big Red squad the best of luck against Utah on December 28.

Colts Now Tied for the AFC South Lead

Monday night the Colts really laid a 41-10 smack down on the New York Jets. It really wasn’t close. In the second half, the Jets just seemed to give up. Jets starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched in favor of second year signal caller Bryce Petty. Petty did throw his first career touchdown pass but it was too little, too late. As for the Horseshoe, it was fifth year pro Dwayne Allen coming through with a career night that led the way. The tight end caught three Andrew Luck touchdown passes in the first half. Allen was virtually by himself as the Jets secondary seemed to ignore him. Number 12 shredded the Jet secondary with 22 completions on 28 attempts for 278 yards and 4 touchdowns. Wideout Donte Moncrief caught a 3 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Runningback Robert Turbin added 5 yard run in the fourth quarter. Cornerback Darius Butler grabbed his third interception of the season. Considering that the Colts only have four total for the season, that’s quite an accomplishment. Tight end Jack Doyle had a bad moment in the first half. He caught a Luck pass across the middle and moved to the end zone. Two Jet defensive backs converged on him at the two yard line. He tried to stretch the ball to the end zone but dropped on the one inch line. Doyle thought he had scored but the referee ruled it a touch back. The Jets got the ball on the 20 but the first half ended before they could do anything.
The win gives the Big Blue a 6-6 record and puts them in a three way tie for first place in the AFC South with Houston and Tennessee. Goes to show you the AFC South is the NFL’s weakest division when three of four teams are tied for the division lead at 6-6. The Colts’ next opponents are the Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium this coming Sunday. The Texans always seem to have a difficult time at Lucas Oil but remembering what happened the last time these two teams met, we can take this game for granted.
