Matt Roberts is a freelance journalist. He has covered and written about all areas of sports, but his main focus and his greatest loves are basketball and baseball. He is also a licensed referee for both basketball and soccer. Suffice it to say when he writes about sports he is speaking with authority. Matt and his family moved from Louisville, Kentucky to Terre Haute in 1983 and Matt promptly fell under the spell of March Madness in Indiana. Indiana high school basketball has fascinated him ever since. Thirty-Two Minutes in March is Matt’s first book. Matt admits that the hardest part about being a published author is in promoting his book. Meeting people like myself for interviews, autographing copies for fans and so forth, and generally having to get out among ‘em. It’s fun, but tiring. Published by Booklocker, it’s available in bookstores, online, and in E-Book form.
The book itself examines the 21st Century edition of Hoosier Hysteria and follows a small school — Rockville High School, large urban school; Center Grove; legendary Indianapolis city high chool Crispus Attucks, and Danville High as they enter the 2015 Indiana sectionals with the intent of taking home a championship. Each school is different in location and size of the student population. All are well coached and have players of varying degrees of skill. All are products of the class system that the IHSAA now employs. All four teams have their own stories to tell.
Matt Roberts has given us a clear and precise look at the March Madness of the new millennium, and has done so in a riveting way that will capture and keep your attention. I highly recommended the book for sports fans, particularly basketball fans, history buffs, and those who just love a good read. Congratulations to Matt Roberts on a significant achievement in telling the story of the modern Hoosier Hysteria.
