From The Indianapolis News, Saturday, September 9, 1916: As a result of the Indianapolis Board of Health order requiring all children to be vaccinated against typhoid fever before they will be permitted to enter school next week, the board’s office was the scene of unusual activity today as supplies were being prepared for school medical inspectors who will begin the vaccination of thousands of children Monday morning. Physicians have agreed to a fixed fee of $3 (2014: $64.30) for the course of treatments, and less where there is more than one child in a family. Businesses have also shown an interest in the fight against typhoid fever and some have arranged for their employees to take the treatment without cost. Forty-six children will be kept out of school because their parents objected to having them vaccinated.
