INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Repertory Theatre has announced the 2016-2017 season. The nine production season features work on the OneAmerica Mainstage, the Upperstage and the IRT Cabaret.
The IRT opens its season with The Three Musketeers Sept. 20-Oct. 15, which tells the story of an eager young lad from the provinces who arrives in Paris to join the king’s guard. He finds intrigue, love and plenty of crossed swords. The Three Musketeers is a legendary tale of danger and daring, royalty and romance.
The world premiere of Finding Home: Indiana at 200 Oct. 18-Nov. 13 delves into Indiana’s beloved icons and hidden gems, the celebrated and the scandalous, with a bicentennial collection created by writers from all over the state. Featuring songs by Hoosier singer-songwriter Tim Grimm, this multifaceted look at Indiana’s life and times mixes music and history, comedy and drama, fact and fable.
Returning to stage, A Christmas Carol Nov. 19-Dec. 24 allows the spirit of Christmas to bring new life to Ebenezer Scrooge in his journey from dark night of the soul to bright joyous morning.
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, based on the screenplay by William Rose, explores prejudice and love, and a changing world Jan. 10-Feb. 4
Amid the dangers of World War II, a privileged young white boy and a resourceful old black man are marooned on a tiny island in the Caribbean. Adapted from the award-winning children’s novel, The Cay from Jan. 28-Feb. 26 tells a story of overcoming both hardship and prejudice, reminding us that friendship has no boundaries.
For a third year, the IRT presents an Exploring Stages production for its youngest audiences. This year, Stuart Little comes to life in the IRT Cabaret Feb. 25-March 26. Everyone’s favorite mouse lives a happy life with his human family and his friend Margolo the bird—as long as he can avoid that sinister feline, Snowball.
It’s the swinging sixties in Paris, where a swanky bachelor’s pad is the setting for Boeing Boeing March 7-April 1. As three stunning stewardesses experience interlocking flight schedules, what could possibly go wrong? Doors slam and courses collide in this riotous romantic romp.
A CIA operative working in the Middle East goes through a mind-bending existential crisis. Who are her friends? Who is the enemy? And just who is Miranda? The IRT’s award-winning playwright-in-residence, James Still, brings us Miranda, a psychological riddle set in the world’s most explosive region from March 28-April 23.
A retired tennis pro plots the murder of his wife—but when she turns the tables on her attempted assailant, she is convicted of murder. Can the police detective who brought her to trial now decipher the clues that will save her life? Dial “M” for Murder weaves an ever tightening web of danger and deception April 25-May 21.
