INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), is resuming the “Ditch Your Fridge” program, and now with a larger rebate.
The program provides residential customers with a $50 rebate when they allow IPL to pick up and recycle their older, working refrigerators or freezers, which use significantly more electricity than newer, ENERGY STAR® models.
Program participants can save as much as $150 a year through lower electricity costs by having an older refrigerator or freezer hauled away. These units typically are kept in basements and garages for extra cold storage, which is often unnecessary. Additionally, recycling a single unit repurposes more than 188 pounds of materials such as foam, glass and metal for future use. This has the same beneficial environmental impact of removing two cars from the road for a year.
Customers also receive an additional $20 if they have an older, inefficient window/room air conditioner IPL can pick up at the same time.
To participate in Ditch Your Fridge, call 866.472.9381 or go to IPLpower.com/ditchyourfridge. Refrigerators and stand-alone freezers must be in working condition and must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size. A rebate will arrive within six weeks. A maximum of two units per household a year will be accepted.
