From The Indianapolis News, Monday, March 13: Officers and men of the Indiana National Guard are “champing at the bit,” while the Mexican situation looms up as a possibility that the state guards may be called into action. Captain George L. Bumbaugh will confer with men desiring to enlist in the formation of an aeroplane squadron for the guard. Thirty-nine men will initially make up the company, and it is planned to obtain four aeroplanes for the squadron’s use. Captain Bumbaugh will furnish one plane and the three others are to be bought with state-wide subscriptions. Battery A members took out the twelve horses recently provided by the War Department for their first practice maneuvers. This is the first time an Indiana militia battery has been equipped with horses in time of peace by the War Department.
