World War 1 100 Years Ago: March 4-10

From The Indianapolis News, Saturday, March 4: The Indianapolis committee of the American Fund for French Wounded will begin a campaign next Monday to collect money and supplies for small out-of-the-way French hospitals. Hospital garments and surgical dressings are in great demand.  In many places sheets and pillowcases are not to be found; bandages are worn thin from washing; and convalescent soldiers are without a change of clothing. Old linen and old cotton, clean and soft of any size, are desired and small pillows, towels, handkerchiefs, games, soap and warm underwear also are needed. The supplies will be carried to France free of charge by French ships and distributed by the American relief clearing house. The local committee is under the direction of Miss Caroline Marmon and is headquartered in rooms at 1535 N. Central Av.
