Rhonda Rousey, Is Peyton Manning Done?

Rhonda Rousey has become a media superstar and is looked on as a beautiful young woman who has become a role model for women. She was an undefeated mixed martial arts fighter and an Olympic Bronze Medal winner in Women’s Judo in the 2008 Beijing Games. She is a world champion Judo competitor and has even added modeling and acting to her professional resume. She has twice been named the ESPY Female Athlete of the Year and an ESPN Poll named her the Best Female Athlete Ever. She has appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, the ESPN Body Issue, Playboy, and Maxim magazine. She wrote an autobiography in which she encouraged young women to take charge of their lives and not let other people define them. She also admitted that she beat up an ex-boyfriend for taking nude photos of her and she broke up the marriage of her current boyfriend Travis Browne.
Rhonda is 5 foot, 7 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. She was born in Riverside California and is 28 years old. She started her career in women’s professional boxing in 2012. She is the MMA Women’s Featherweight Champion.
Last Saturday night, November 14, Rousey was competing against Holly Hohm for the newly created MMA Woman’s Bantamweight title. Rousey was heavily favored to take the title and some said Holms wouldn’t last the first round. It didn’t happen that way Holms brutalized Rousey and knocked her out. She also did a number on Rousey’s face that left Rhonda embarrassed and ashamed. Some high profile critics such as Donald Trump, Lady Gaga, and Laila Ali have called her an over-hyped phoney. A lot of money was lost on the fight and charges that the fight was fixed and Rhonda took a dive are already emerging. There will most likely be a rematch and Rhonda will continue to get a great deal of media attention if she loses. She will most likely slide over to professional wrestling which is another interest of hers.

Is Peyton Manning Done?

Against Kansas City last weekend, Number 18 moved past Brett Favre to become the NFL’s all-time passing yards leader with 71,871 career passing yards. However, the rest of the game was dreadful for Peyton. He completed 5 passes on 20 attempts for just 35 yards with four interceptions. He was replaced by backup Brock Osweiler in the third quarter as the Chiefs beat the Broncos 29-13 to give Denver it’s second straight loss. Peyton is having the worst season of his career statistically and is ranked dead last among NFL passers this season with a 9 to 17 touchdown to interception ratio. His 17 interceptions are currently most in the league. The Denver defense had been among the league’s best, but the Colts exposed some problems with Denver’s defense. The Broncos announced that Peyton has been dealing with torn plantar fasciitis in his left foot which was aggravated in the Colts game. Anyway, he is done for the 2015 season.
If 2015 is indeed his last season, it’s sad to think that he will go out on such a down note. He may well be football’s greatest passers, but he only has the single Superbowl victory to his credit. He will always be known as one of the classiest guys ever to play the game and he has left some records that may never be broken. snicewanger@yahoo.com
