From The Indianapolis News, Friday, August 27, 1915: An invitation has been issued to Indiana civilians to participate in the training camp at Ft. Benjamin Harrison of the 1st Separate Battalion, Indiana National Guard. The cost is nominal and it would give all who cared to attend an opportunity to study military training first hand. Training camps are beneficial, both in training the citizen to command army units and helping the federal government to keep in touch with the men thus trained. There are undoubtedly a great many men in Indiana who would gladly volunteer their services to their country if occasion required the organizing of a large army. But without previous training they would necessarily have to enlist as privates. This school of training will give those who show ability an opportunity to qualify as officers of volunteers.
