From The Indianapolis Star, Tuesday, July 6, 1915: Yesterday afternoon beneath brilliant blue skies, a crowd of thousands seated on the hillside — “a natural grandstand” — of Ellenberger Park witnessed the “Indiana Pageant” given by local Irvington talent. The bugle sounded the opening episode, “Nature’s Gifts to Indiana.” Miss Ruth Cunningham, portraying “Nature,” swept into view with other performers dancing upon the scene. Following episodes, “The Indians and the First White Explorers” and “Breaking Out of the Civil War,” the grand finale produced real enthusiasm as the band struck-up The Star Spangled Banner. Everyone joined in the singing as a grand march of all of the actors, headed by the band and Irvington Civil War veterans, received the cheers of the multitude. Flags fluttered and the pageant ended in a burst of patriotic fervor with fireworks filling the evening sky.
