From The Indianapolis Star, Sunday, June 20, 1915: Philip Skehan is the speed king of Irvington, winner of the great shovemotor two-mile classic, run last evening before cheering multitudes in the famous Audubon Road circular Speedway. Skehan, in his rakish “Fiat,” made the distance — ten laps around the circle — in the phenomenal time of ten minutes and ten seconds, by the endurance of Paul Corring, the general motive power. Skehan received $1 (2014: $23.06) in cash and $1 in credit at an Irvington store. Second place — “Mercedes,” Roy Schoen; propelled by Don Curry; Third place — “Stutz,” Dick McMurray; propelled by Pem Cornelius; Fourth place — “Peugeot,” “Smoke” Hammons; propelled by Bud Bunnell. This was the second annual shovemotor race staged on the Audubon Road Speedway. There were fifteen entrants. One accident marred the race and caused intense excitement.
