INDIANAPOLIS — In partnership with Lilly Endowment Inc., Feeding America, Disney Worldwide Services, Inc., and Green BEAN Delivery, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana will provide weekend meals for 3,500 children in need this summer. Gleaners Summer Weekend Meals Program provides free, nutritious meals to help children in low-income areas get the proper food they need throughout the summer months.
Each Friday, at 31 different summer program locations, children taking part in Summer Youth Program Fund activities will receive sacks of food filled with enough nutrition to last the weekend.
Summer Weekend Meals, which starts June 5, not only provides free, nutritious meals, but also provides an incentive for children to participate in summer enrichment programs. The programs are part of the Summer Youth Program Fund initiative, a collaborative of 10 funding partners which ensures that children are not only well-fed, but in a safe environment engaged in academic and recreational activities.
