From The Indianapolis News, Wednesday, August 19, 1914: Citizens of Broad Ripple appeared before a city council committee yesterday asking that the suburb and intervening territory be annexed to Indianapolis. Broad Ripple town board members urged the committee to recommend annexation of the suburb in order that it may be provided with an adequate sewer system and other municipal improvements. Petitioners noted that since Broad Ripple and the city have grown toward each other until now it is difficult to tell where the city leaves off and the town begins, annexation is the logical thing to do. The proposed ordinance provides annexing territory north to White River and between Illinois St and the Monon Railroad, but the committee probably will favor annexation after the proposed ordinance is amended to include more territory and the Broad Ripple township school.
