IRVINGTON — On June 8 at 1:30 p.m., the Irvington Historical Society’s Executive Director Steve Barnett will repeat his April presentation, “Irvington’s Monuments Man: Thomas Carr Howe, Jr. and the Quest for Nazi Loot,” detailing how the former Irvingtonian was instrumental in the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives (MFAA) Allied Army War Program during World War II. The MFAA was tasked to safeguard local cultural property from war damage as the Allies advanced in Europe. As the war drew to a close, they were assigned to find and return works of art and other items of cultural importance stolen by the Nazis.
Thomas Carr Howe, Jr.’s niece, Jane Howe, will also be attending the presentation to share thoughts about her uncle.
The presentation is free; donations will be gratefully accepted. The Bona Thompson Memorial Center is located at 5350 University Ave.
