Walker Students Heading to Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS — Congratulations to Carol Rice, Andrea Guinn and Carey Neuerman and their students. The Culinary Arts Team A: Robert Roucoulet, Lisa Ingram, Omar Posadas-Cuaya and Cris Dugan placed 1st in the ProStart and FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) State Competitions on March 7th at the Wyndham Gardens in Indianapolis. They also were awarded Best Entrée. The winning menu was named “International Tour.” The courses were marinated tiger shrimp with mixed green salad with sweet and tangy vinaigrette; barbecue glazed lamb chops, rosemary-parmesan polenta, with perfectly seasoned rainbow Swiss chard; and vanilla bean-orange essence frozen custard accompanied by salted caramel and cone-shaped tuile cookies.
Team B: Savion Brown, Destiney Olson, Maddie Murdoch and Jeremy Wigley placed 2nd in FCCLA. Their menu was named “Southern Comfort.”
In addition to the accomplishment of placing in these two competitions, students on Team A have earned scholarships from Ivy Tech Community College and Johnson and Wales for a yet-to-be-announced amount. In addition, students were offered free admission to Camp Culinaire at Ivy Tech. They have also earned scholarships from the International Culinary School for $3,000 for four years ($12,000) and a full ride to the Chef’s Academy ($50,000).
Team A has been invited to participate in the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland in April and to the National FCCLA competition in July held in Nashville, Tennessee.
