A couple weeks ago I did a story about the High Tea on Valentine’s Day at the Colonel’s Cupboard on the Tech High School Campus. Well, I am thrilled to report that it was quite a success!
I have had high tea before, so I knew what to expect, but this high tea had the makings of a banquet fit for a Queen. The tables were beautifully set with lovely fine china, vases of flowers, cloth napkins with elegant napkin rings, a silver three tiered tray and of course a tea pot. The dozens of little tea sandwiches were filled with wonderful delights like cream cheese with dill and cucumbers. There was crabmeat in endive shells, stuffed mushrooms, tiny quiches and so much more. Oh, and the assortment of scones, truffles, brownies, cupcakes was endless and delicious. We were serenaded by a student violinist and Orchestra teacher Beth Aubrey Meyer on keyboard. The dining went on for nearly two hours. The culinary students made all the food, set the tables and served the tea (lovely boxes full of exotic teas were available) and cleared tables and brought around additional treats on silver trays.
They plan on more of these High Teas in the spring — I’ll let you know when.
The Colonel’s Cupboard is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the school year. The menu changes daily but there are always soups, salads, sandwiches, and full course meals offered. Coffee, tea, and lemonade are the beverages served and are included in the price of the meal. Go online at www.716.ips.k12.in.us to check out the week’s menu.
I also toured the Tech Centennial Museum in the Arsenal (2nd floor) and saw the displays of Tech’s history in photos, old yearbooks, letter sweaters, prom dresses, diplomas and so much more. It is a great collection of artifacts.
