From The Indianapolis Sun, Friday, January 31, 1913: Open war between the Indianapolis building inspector and the moving picture show proprietors was threatened today when Inspector Thomas A. Winterrowd notified J. M. Rhodes, president of the moving picture proprietors’ association, that he would not permit the use of motor controlled reels for films in shows. A new invention, motor controlled reels have just been introduced in this city. After investigating the apparatus, the building inspector disapproved its use because he was not sure the motor would not stop and the films catch fire. Rhodes said. “I think we will put them in…you have us arrested….we will try the case in court.” Wintrrowd replied, “That’s just the way with you men….You don’t think anyone has any authority to govern you at all.”
