INDIANAPOLIS — Central Indiana residents are invited to join WalkWays, Health by Design, Indiana Citizens’ Alliance for Transit (ICAT) and IndyGo for a Nov. 13 workshop on public transportation policy and its role in creating more livable communities. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at IndyGo headquarters, 1501 W. Washington St.
Speakers will discuss the critical “first mile” and “last mile” that connect bus riders to transit stops and destinations, addressing common problems and solutions. They’ll also discuss WalkWays, the new initiative to make Indianapolis more walkable and get more people walking.
As part of the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to conduct real bus stop accessibility assessments. Teams will visit bus stops throughout downtown Indianapolis and assess such things as the presence and condition of sidewalks, visible crosswalks, Braille pedestrian signal signs, countdown signals, bike parking and more.
The workshop is free, but registration is required. Please register by Nov. 9 at www.surveymonkey.com/r/Indy_transit
