• Save the Date: The 7th Annual Cumberland Arts Goes to Market, will be held on Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This year’s market promises to be bigger than ever, with an entertainment line-up that includes the Irish Airs, Wild Mercy, the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, and Haley Jonay. There will be an expanded kid’s zone that includes activities with Art with a Heart, plus lots of shopping, and the Cumberland Farmers Market. It all takes place on Saturn Street between Cumberland Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington St. and Cumberland First Baptist Church.
• Speaking of festivals and fairs, the east side Feast of Lanterns is scheduled for August 22 from 4-11 p.m. Right now, organizers are looking for financial support to help keep the Feast going. • Anthony Sims Jr., professional boxer and operator of Sims Boxing Gym, 4615 East 10th St., upped his pro record to 5-0 Saturday at Tyndall Armory with a knockout at 55 seconds of round number one. His opponent, Anthony Morgan, was making his pro debut. Four of Sims’ wins have come by KOs. Sims said he will concentrate on working with the Simsters, 60-plus youngsters who have enrolled at the gym, for a month before fighting again in mid-August.
• Caito Food Service, located at 33rd and Post Rd., has announced expansion plans for its distribution facility. They are looking to create an additional 342 jobs for the area once the expansion is complete.
• The 35th annual @InConJunction InConJunction Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention will be held July 3rd – 5th at the Indianapolis Marriott East. Guests include Author Guests of Honor Timothy Zahn and Arlan Andrews and Music Guest of Honor Marian Call. Featured Guests include Barry Childs-Helton, Sally Childs-Helton, Mark C. Dooley of the Whoosier Network, Christopher Dunn, TammyJo Eckhart, Michelle Eubank Mussoni, Robert Pyatt, with Fan Guest of Honor George Starkey and Toastmaster Lou Harry, writer. • The annual Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concert at Ellenberger Park (5301 E. St. Clair) will be held July 8 at 8 p.m. Bring a lawn chair to this free event.
• Congratulations to RecycleForce, which just received a substantial federal grant to support their mission to provide work and training to ex-offenders.
