LAWRENCE — After a successful pilot program in 2013, board members of Partnerships for Lawrence decided to expand its Summer Art Camp program to five weeks in 2014. Each week of camp is centered round a theme for children to select. The five themes are: Green Week (June 16-20), Believe Week (June 23-27), Construction Week (July 7-11), Circus Week (July 14-18), Culture Week (July 21-25).
Activities include pottery, puppetry, sculpture, painting, drawing, drumming and other performance art. Prior art-making experience is not necessary. Art Camp is staffed with a 1:8 adult-to-camper ratio and includes instruction from a different visiting artist each morning.
The Lawrence Summer Art Camp runs Mondays-Fridays 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Each child is offered a free lunch from the Summer Servings program, or can bring his own sack lunch (no refrigeration available). Before- and after-camp care is available for an additional fee of $40.
The Lawrence Summer Art Camp will be held at the Fortune Academy located at 5626 Lawton Loop East Dr. at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Tuition is $115/child. Registration is now open and space is limited each week. Register at www.lawrenceartcenter.net or call 317-408-9525 for more information.
