INDIANAPOLIS — Renovations at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Indianapolis’ near north side are almost complete. The park is the site where Sen. Robert F. Kennedy delivered a speech on April 4, 1968, informing a crowd of King’s assassination and calling for unity.
Fifty-eight years later, city leaders and neighbors say the nearly $7 million investment in increased security and enhancements over the last year of the project has made the community even stronger. Upgrades include enhanced lighting, added security cameras, improved walkways and expanded educational elements, highlighting both King’s legacy and Kennedy’s historic speech.
A rededication ceremony is scheduled for April 4, the anniversary of King’s assassination, from noon to 6 p.m. at the park, located at 102 N. Broadway.
