INDIANAPOLIS — Community members rallied Saturday, Feb. 14 to save the Ransburg YMCA on Indianapolis’ east side, which is set to close permanently on March 31. In January, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis made the decision to close the facility on Shortridge Rd. due to financial reasons. The facility was losing roughly $1 million a year.
However, hundreds of residents who have patronized Ransburg for the last 67 years have created a “Save the Ransburg Y” group on Facebook, and held a rally to show their support for keeping it open. They are asking the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis to work with the community and leadership to find a way to keep the facility open.
