Timothy E. Nelson, Ph.D. to Speak at the Eiteljorg

INDIANAPOLIS — Each February during Black History Month, the Eiteljorg presents the Leon Jett Memorial Lecture Series, which features a respected author, artist or scholar speaking about historical and contemporary Black Americans and their contributions to the American West.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 21, the Eiteljorg welcomes this year’s speaker: historian and author Timothy E. Nelson, Ph.D., who will discuss his research of a Black community in New Mexico during an oil boom in the early 20th century, and its lasting cultural legacy. Dr. Nelson will sign copies of his book, On Blackdom, New Mexico: The Significance of the Afro-Frontier, 1900-1930. The event is included with regular museum admission; members get in free.
