Applause!: Feb. 13-19

• February 14th, the group will be holding a “Show Your Love for Ransburg” rally from 9 a.m. — noon, outside of the Ransburg’s entrance at 501 N. Shortridge. You are encouraged to make a sign, wear your YMCA gear, and bring friends to stand up and show your support for the Ransburg. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
• With much of the snow probably melted due to the predicted warm-up, expect pothole season to be a doozy. DPW can’t patch unless they know about a problem, so please report your pothole encounters at the Mayor’s Action Center by visiting www.indy.gov/activity/pothole-repair or calling 317-327-4622. There are some on East Washington St. that are turning into tire busters, for sure.
• In Lawrence, Melnor Rd. will be closed between Monday, Feb. 16 through Friday, Feb. 20 for construction activity. Detour signs will be posted.
• City-County Councilor Andy Nielsen will hold February Office Hours on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Irvington Public Library Branch. (10 S Audubon Rd.). In addition, the Irvington Community Council Monthly Meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7pm. (55 Johnson Ave.).
•  According to Safe Streets Indy, during the week of Feb. 2-8, there were five incidents and four of them resulted in death. This is a difficult time for everyone, but especially people who walk on city streets. Sidewalks next to major thoroughfares are snow covered and treacherous, forcing people to walk on the street to get to their destination. Drivers, please look out for folks — stay off the phone when driving, pay attention, and slow down!
• The Indiana State Museum is hosting its annual GEOFest on Friday, Feb. 20-Sunday, Feb. 22 at the museum, located at 650 W. Washington St. Three floors of rocks, minerals, and fossil vendors will be on hand. Also, there will be community partner displays, hands-on activities, and a live concrete mixing truck. Tickets are $23 for adults, children $17, seniors $21. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit indianamuseum.org/event/geofest to purchase tickets in advance.
• The Little Flower Neighborhood Association will have their annual Neighborhood Chili Cookoff on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 2-4 p.m. at the school cafeteria, 4720 E. 13th St. Show off your secret recipe, and maybe bring home bragging rights. To sign up, visit https://tinyurl.com/3789wtpt
• The LRS recycling transition is, by all accounts, not going smoothly. There have been many complaints about recycling not being picked up since the company took over in the city. Please call the Mayor’s Action Center at 317-327-4622 or online at request.indy.gov and report it.

Monday, Feb. 16 is Presidents Day. Federal, state and local offices will be closed, as well as the Post Office and banks.
