• The November meeting of the Perry Township / Southport Historical Society features guest speaker JoAnn Bush, daughter of home builder Bob Stephens. She has some interesting stories to tell about her dad’s business and housing development in our community. Stephens built homes in Perry Manor, Hill Valley, Carriage Estates, Meridian Woods and more. He was the developer of Cary Ranch, Pebble Hills, Shadow Hills and other subdivisions. The meeting is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the Perry Township Education Center, 6548 Orinoco Ave. Enter through the center doors at the northwest corner of the building.
• After 2 years of refurbishment, the Garfield Park Fountains are fixed. The gardens will remain closed until next spring. The have been tested before winterization.
• The 3rd Annual Friends and Family Community Dinner at Broadway UMC, 609 E. 29th St. (Door 1 in the Community Room) will be held Thursday, Nov. 27 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (dine in). Pickups will be available 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
• Kitchen Catering will have a pop-up pie shop at Chicago Beef and Dogs, 5417 E, Washington St. from 1-4 p.m. Chose from pumpkin, pecan, Dutch crumble apple, and cherry. Cost is $18 each, $20 for pecan. There is a very limited supply, so get there early!
• Friendsgiving Gobble Wobble will be held at Monsterz Inc. on Friday, Nov. 28 from 8 p.m.-3 a.m. at 7 S. Johnson in Irvington. This will be a pitch-in for 21+ — there will be a $10 cover charge if you come empty-handed, or $5 if you bring a dish. There will be a live DJ, crafts, and a community fest. Tickets at the door!
• On Sunday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m., there will be a Community Thanksgiving Service at Church of God of Prophecy Hoyt Ave. Worship Center, 4301 Hoyt Ave. Everyone is welcome for food and fellowship.
• Gleaners will have a drive-thru food pantry at 3737 Waldemere Ave. for those in need. Hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursdays, 2-7 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m.-noon. They require a name, cell phone number, and address.
• Newfields is starting a project to turn a large parking lot into a flower and vegetable garden, costing $4.6 million. The project will likely begin in spring. Newfields is located at 4000 Michigan Rd.
• Hurry up and sign up to volunteer for the Irvington Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Our Lady of Lourdes On Thursday, Nov. 27. This is a day when the community comes together to feed everyone. Visit https://tinyurl.com/OLL2025Dinner to donate food, volunteer for decorating, clean-up, delivering meals to homes, or to donate funds to keep it going. The church is located at 5333 E. Washington St.
