Construction Begins on the Housing Hub

INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Joe Hogsett joined community partners today to break ground on the Housing Hub, the first publicly constructed emergency shelter in the city. The Housing Hub will centralize supportive resources for residents experiencing homelessness and will be the first low barrier shelter option in Indianapolis. It will be located near the corner of Shelby and Georgia streets on the near eastside.
The Housing Hub, a four-floor facility, will include a 150-bed low-barrier, emergency shelter for individuals, couples, and families along with a day center and a housing navigation hub. Aspire Indiana Health will operate the low-barrier shelter, and Goodwill Horizon House will manage the day center and housing navigation hub.
The $32 million facility is funded through a $12 million commitment from Mayor Hogsett, along with $20 million approved by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. The State Legislature approved funding for the low barrier shelter grant, which was awarded to the City of Indianapolis in late 2024.
The addition of the Housing Hub to this multi-faceted approach will fill a current gap in the shelter system, providing shelter beds for those who currently face barriers to access emergency shelter.
The Housing Hub is scheduled to open in 2027.
