IRVINGTON — The Irvington Advocacy Network is seeking volunteers to help with its food and clothing programs. ICAN operates a food and clothing closet at Irvington UMC at 30 N. Audubon Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and the ICAN Food Pantry at Downey Ave. Christian Church, 111 S. Downey on Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. The ICAN Food Pantry serves anyone in the 46219 zip code, and those experiencing homelessness.
Community-funded and community-focused, they provide essential goods and social services to individuals in crisis with a strong emphasis on equity and dignity. Through their core programs, they address food insecurity, poverty, and related challenges by offering personalized support and connecting clients with a broad network of local resources to promote lasting stability and well-being.
ICAN provides help to overcome barriers to basic necessities such as clothing, food and hygiene items. They also help with job applications, bus passes, and more, using donations and grants. They also provide information on continuing education and local job fairs. They distribute Narcan and fentanyl/xylazine testing supplies and substance use disorder education. They are also part of several neighborhood coalitions to help address other needs.
To find out more about volunteering, visit irvican.org or call 317-322-9645 on Tuesdays between 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
