State Scraps Event Pavilion at Riverside Project

INDIANAPOLIS — State officials recently announced that the Crane Bay on the White River has been demolished and will no longer be redeveloped as a multi-use pavilion for community events, farmer’s market, and concerts. The Lilly Endowment provided a $30 million grant to White River State Park for the development, which has been returned. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. stated that the project was too expensive.
Neighborhoods in the area supported the pavilion as a possible gathering space for the community, after being told it would expand the White River State Park.
The crane bay project was a key part of the early plans for redevelopment of the former GM stamping plant. The Elanco campus on the property recently opened.
