INDIANAPOLIS — Recently, the IndyGo board of directors unanimously approved a resolution that would increase fares across the board beginning Jan. 1, though it included an amendment to delay price changes to IndyGo Access until July 1, 2026. Base fares would rise to $2.75 full fare and $1.35 half fare. A one-day pass would be $6 full fare and $3 half fare.
The fare increase is the first time IndyGo has bumped up prices in 16 years. 10-trip, 31-day, S-Passes and Summer Youth Passes will be eliminated.
IndyGo officials cite rising costs of fuel and operations. They also want to encourage riders to use the MyKey service, saying that using cash actually ends up costing more. IndyGo officials say riders using the My Key app would never pay more than $24.75 per week, regardless of how many trips they take. The new changes would also remove the $2 issuance fee for obtaining a MyKey card.
IndyGo emphasized the prices would only be in effect for those who use MyKey, their digital payment system. For example, when using My Key today, the daily fare cap is $4.00. Starting July 1, 2026, the daily fare cap would be $6.00. Similarly, for the week, the fare cap is now $15.75, the new weekly fare cap would increase to $24.75.
By federal law, groups like people 65 and older and those with disabilities can ride at half fare. Other groups, like veterans, some government employees and children 5 years old and under, can still ride for free.
