Applause!: Aug. 1-7

•  On Aug. 8 there will be a free outdoor community Movie Night, showing “Jumanji” with Robin Williams, at Grace Church, 5605 S. Franklin Rd. (directly across from Franklin Road Library). Free popcorn, hot dogs, & drinks will be provided; lawn games will be available. Lawn opens at 7:45, film starts at 8:45. Bring blanket or lawn chair for seating. If inclement weather, event will be moved indoors.
• Congratulations to Circle City Whiskey, who were judged best whiskey for an 11 year rye at this year’s Toast of the Fair Wine and Spirits competition. They were also named Distillery of the Year. They are located in Indianapolis. The best non-whiskey was Ginger Flavored Rum from Distillery 64 in New Albany.
• National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5. Many neighborhoods in the area will be having events, including Little Flower’s fun night out from 5:30-7:00 p.m.with food trucks, school supplies, a light supper, and games for kids. You can also meet the local firefighters and police officers. Keep your porch light on to show support for crime reduction and community.
• The Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair, with feature a Universal Drip Art Exhibit V curated by Omar Rashan from Aug. 4-30 in the Simon Reading Room. There will be an open house on Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 5:00-7:45 p.m.
• This Sunday, Aug. 3 get yourself down to the Irvington Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social at 1 p.m. for cool treats, good music, and a chance to meet your friends and neighbors. The Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University will be open for you to view the exhibits.
• The Girl Scouts of Central Indiana are hosting S’mores on the Circle on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at 1 Monument Circle. Local chefs will have gourmet s’mores for sale ($6) and all proceeds go to support the Girl Scouts in the area and their programs. Everyone is welcome.
• Irvington Theater will host a viewing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Satuday, Aug. 9 from 11 p.m.-2 a.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, or $8 in advance at www.transylvanianliptreatment.com . Costumes and partici . . .pation are encouraged. The theater is located at 5505 E. Washington St.
• There will be a job fair at the Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. This is Andre Carson’s annual resource fair, with many employers on hand to discuss careers available in the area. No pre-registration is necessary. The center is located at 2820 N. Meridian.
• Mark your calendar for the second in a series of Osbert Sumner Speaker Series on Sunday, Aug, 10 at 2 p.m. with Joan Hostetler of the Indiana Album. She will be talking about the stories behind the subjects in the forgotten glass negatives. The first meeting was a standing room only crowd, so get there early to get a seat for this discussion about the history captured in these treasures.
