INDIANAPOLIS — City-County Councilor Andy Nielsen will walk his 14th District on May 16 and 17 in order to meet with neighborhood organizations and highlight the community and its citizens. On his social media page, he stated that he is doing this to hear from residents and community leaders to find hope and unity by walking and talking to people. He is inviting people on his route to walk with him for a block or two to discuss how to improve the east side of Indianapolis.
The route on Friday, May 16 will be a departure from Pleasant Run Golf Course at 8 a.m. to an 8:30 a.m. meet-up at the Ransburg YMCA for a conversation with the YMCA leadership and IMPD East District (join them for coffee and donuts), then a walk through Eastgate, stopping for a visit at Old Bethel Pantry to talk with volunteers, help restock shelves, and have lunch around 11:30 a.m. (preregistration required at voteandyforindy.com/volunteer). From there, they will walk to the future community resource center at 16th and Post around 1:30 p.m., Common Ground of Faith to meet with community partners. They will depart and walk to Warren Central High School around 2:30 p.m., then cross Mithoeffer to the farthest District 14 neighborhoods. From 4:30-6 p.m., he will be at the Warren Library to meet with the Far Eastside Community Council, and he will have office hours afterwards so that residents can talk with him.
On Saturday, May 17, Andy will depart at 8 a.m. for a walk through Pleasanton, then meet with Friends of Ellenberger Park for coffee and donuts at 8:30 a.m. at Ellenberger. He will attend the Community Heights Block Party for lunch at Pando Aspen Grove at about 11:30 a.m. before departing for a walk through PAR-10 and Irvington Terrace. Then, he’s on to IFD Station 25 to take a tour of the station at 1:45 p.m. before meeting up with Irvington Development Organization at Irvington Plaza at 2:15 p.m. to discuss the future of the property. At 3 p.m., he’ll walk west on the Pennsy into Irvington, stopping at businesses and maybe a break at the Snug, then heading to Christian Park, which is the western-most part of District 14.
From 5:30-7 p.m., he will be at Irving Circle Park on S. Audubon to help kick off the summer with a bring-your-own picnic, and a donation drive of nonperishable goods for the Big Red Box Project.
