• We’re coming down to the wire for donations for the Gaia Works toy drive, where we collect toys for the kids and adults at Coburn Place, a shelter for domestic violence survivors. Drop by with new toys, scarves, mittens, stocking stuffers, etc. or you can donate to Gaia Works at the Magick Candle, 6125 E. Washington St. during business hours.
• WIBC’s annual Radiothon for the Salvation Army will take place on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14. The live broadcast will come from Sullivan Hardware and Garden beginning on Friday at 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Saturday. Tune in to 93.1 and call in some pledges to help the underserved in our community.
• Cumberland First Baptist Church will have a special celebration “Journey into the Light” to mark the longest night of the year, Saturday, Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m. for those who have the holiday blues.
• Andrea DeMink was recently honored by IMPD for her work as Founder and Executive Director of the PourHouse, collaborating with the IMPD Homeless Unit. Congratulations to Andrea and all of the good people at the PourHouse for their hard work and dedication!
• Congratulations to Market Vintage at 9 Johnson for their second anniversary! They will be having “birthday party” on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. that will include cake, music, a DIY customization booth, kid’s craft corner, and much more.
• 201 Studios, at 210 S. Rural St. will hold a holiday open house on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 3 p.m.-9 p.m. Local artists will be selling unique gifts, and then you can visit Kismetic Brewing Company in the same building.
• The Athenaeum Christkindlmarkt is going on Friday, Dec. 13 from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and the weekend after that. The traditional German festival with food, drinks, and much more in the beirgarten. The Athenaeum is located at 401 E. Michigan in the Mass Ave. Arts district.
• Garfield Park Conservatory Crossing is open with a wonderful display of poinsettias and holiday good cheer through Dec. 29. Admission is $14 per family (2 adults max.) or $6 per person. They are open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Located at 2505 Conservatory Dr. near Shelby St. and Raymond, it is a hidden gem in Indianapolis. If you’re new to the area, you need to check it out.
• The Phoenix Theatre is going all in with holiday spirits with a quirky edge. A Very Phoenix Xmas 16: It’s a Wonderful Die Hard Life Story runs Thursday-Sundays through Dec. 22, which is a sketch comedy based on holiday movies (is Die Hard a Christmas movie?). Snow Fever: A Karaoke Christmas runs Thursdays-Sundays through Dec. 22 and is about a band of misfits in a run-down Montana bar trying their best to make the holiday season bright. Tickets are $30-$40, and seniors/students $20. Visit phoenixtheatre.org for tickets and showtimes. The Phoenix is located at 705 N. Illinois St.
