• Great to see such a great turnout for Scarlet Lane’s Irvington Tap Room preview/soft opening on March 10-12 in the former Black Acre space on East Washington St. The kitchen isn’t open yet, but will be coming soon with smash burgers and other options. Hours are Wed. & Thurs. 3 p.m.-10 p.m., Fri. & Sat. from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sun. from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. The address is 5632 E. Washington St.
• On Friday, March 17 and Saturday March 18, Scecina High School, 5000 Nowland Ave., will present Shrek The Musical at 7 p.m. Based on the film, there are 19 new songs and lots of laughs in this production. Tickets are $10 for adults and non-Scecina students, or $5 for Scecina students at the door. Please enter at the North Gym Lobby.
• “Gardening for Wildlife” will be the theme with a presentation by Aaron Stump on March 25 from 10 a.m.-noon at Cumberland First Baptist Church, 16 S. Muessing in Cumberland. Admission is free. Learn how to protect the natural beauty and local wildlife in your yard at this program.
• The Irvington Community Council will hold is March meeting on Tuesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Church in the basement. The church is located at 55 Johnson Ave.
• Speaking of Irvington, there will a City-County Council District 14 candidate Democratic debate on Tuesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Church. District 14 covers part of Irvington. This debate is on the day early voting in the primary begins. The primary vote is on May 2 in Indianapolis. Two candidates will appear: Andy Nielsen and David Ray. The event will also be live-streamed and recorded for those who can’t attend in person.
• Indianapolis Animal Care Services is reaching a breaking point and is overwhelmed with dogs and cats that need good homes. If you have been thinking about adopting, please consider a rescue. The address is 2600 Harding St., and hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mon.-Wed. & Fri.-Sat. and 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
• Who is ready for some Easter fun? The Benton House will hold its Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. promptly. Children are invited to search for eggs on the historic grounds of the Benton House, 312 S. Downey. Admission is free, but a donation is appreciated.
• Save the date: On April 5 from 6-8 p.m., there will be a meeting of interested parties in Wanamaker regarding the creation of a Community Master Plan. Business owners, residents, and other are invited to attend.
