INDIANAPOLIS — Leaders of the Indianapolis Public Library’s board of trustees are preparing to make two big steps related to filling the CEO vacancy of the organization.
They will announce the appointment of a new interim library leader early in 2023. Leadership will select someone from outside the ranks of the library, and will not be a candidate for the permanent position. All previous candidates will be eligible in the new selection process, which will begin sometime in 2023.
Once an interim CEO is named, the board will begin a new search process to identify a new, permanent leader for the organization. Multiple factors led to a majority of trustees to determine a new search was needed, including the occurrence of a significant breach of confidentiality late in the recently concluded process. The breach may have resulted in an unnamed candidate withdrawing their name from consideration. Because the breach involves sensitive HR-related processes, the board cannot publicly disclose further information about the incident.
