INDIANAPOLIS — The Eiteljorg Museum is hosting a new exhibition, Snow Days. It features compelling paintings, pottery, textiles and cultural objects, devoted to the beauty of the winter season. Snow Days continues at the Eiteljorg through Feb. 5, and is included with regular museum admission.
Snow Days features works from the museum’s permanent collection that highlight winter and snowy themes. With objects ranging from delicate carved ivory miniatures of sled dogs to snowy Western landscapes to exquisitely beaded mittens designed to protect the wearer from the cold, the exhibit will highlight works that embrace the beauty of the season and the ingenuity it takes to survive it.
For many people, including artists, winter means more time spent inside to work on their art, such as preparing furs into gloves and mukluks before beading floral patterns onto them. These essential items keep the wearer warm (as well as fashionable) in frigid sub-Arctic and Arctic conditions. The winter-wear examples in the exhibition are beautifully embellished, showcasing the skill and creativity of their artists.
The Eiteljorg Museum is located at 500 W. Washington St. Free parking is available in the White River State Park underground parking garage.
