INDIANAPOLIS — Aspiring authors and fans of local literature are invited to attend the IndyPL Author Fair, taking place Saturday, Aug. 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at Central Library. This all-ages event is free and open to the public.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and network with more than 40 authors, purchase signed copies of their work, and talk about the writing process. The authors cover a wide range of genres and backgrounds.
There will also be workshops led by local literary experts from the Indiana Writers Center: Ania Spyra, an immigrant writer, artist, and educator living in Indianapolis, will teach “Memoir: Translating the Unfamiliar.” This workshop, taking place at 12:30 p.m., will invite attendees to convey the complexity of personal stories without losing the tempo of their narrative.
John F. Allen, a local speculative fiction author, will teach “How to Self-Publish.” This class, taking place at 12:30 p.m., is designed to help authors navigate the self-publishing world and learn the ins and outs of being an independent author.
Saundra Mitchell, a young adult author and editor, will teach “Worldbuilding in YA.” This class, taking place at 2 p.m., outlines a quick but comprehensive method for masterful worldbuilding.
Dominique Weldon, a writer who teaches at Butler University, will lead a workshop on “Writing for Wellness.” This class, taking place at 2 p.m., will offer writing prompts to help authors convey their truth on the page.
