INDIANAPOLIS — The East 38th Street Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library will offer free tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with a combined income of $66,000 or less. These services are available through April 11 by appointment at the branch on Tuesdays, 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Fridays, 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Patrons who are interested in taking advantage of these services can schedule an appointment by stopping by the branch or calling 317-275-4352. Guests are asked to pick up an intake packet from the branch before their appointment. The packet includes information on what to bring to the appointment and a permission form that lets the volunteers take their information to complete their taxes.
Tax Prep services are made available by Indy Free Tax Prep, a network of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites administered by the United Way of Central Indiana in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service. Other locations offering free tax prep services in Marion county include John H. Boner Community Center, Holy Angels Catholic Church, and Shepherd Community Center.
In addition, all IndyPL branches will print limited quantities of federal, state, and county tax forms for patrons free of charge for patrons. Some branch locations, including the Garfield Park Branch, are offering classes on how to locate, print, and find resources to help prepare and fill out taxes.
The tax filing deadline is April 18, 2022. For a full list of locations offering free tax prep, visit irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep, and for links and information about Library support, visit indypl.org/tax.
