DPW Awards $15 Million to Three Major Projects

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Board of Public Works recently voted to approve several measures including a total of approximately $14.9 million in construction contracts for three major upcoming projects.
The first major contract awarded was for Broad Ripple Avenue improvements. At $6.7 million for construction, this is an extensive drainage project with improvements to below-ground stormwater systems, which allows for the widening of sidewalks and rebuilding of pedestrian infrastructure along Broad Ripple Avenue. In coordination with the funding partner Broad Ripple Village Association, the design will also integrate a multi-use path along Broad Ripple Avenue, from the Monon Trail crossing to Broad Ripple Park at Primrose Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2022, with completion expected by the end of the year.
Also awarded today was a $1.65 million construction contract for the first phase of the Monon Trail widening. During the first phase, DPW will widen and resurface the Monon Trail between near 14th Street and 56th Street. The current alignment will be widened by up to 2 feet on each side, for a total width of 10-14 feet at various points along the trail length. This will be the first major upgrade to the Monon Trail in Marion County since its completion in 2003. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2022, with completion expected by the end of the year.
The third major construction contract awarded today was for the rehabilitation of Morris Street from Eagle Creek to Harding Street. This $6.6 million construction project will upgrade the safety and connectivity features of this West Indianapolis thoroughfare. Improvements will include new sidewalks and curbs, bump-outs in parking areas, resurfacing Morris Street within project limits, and upgrades to traffic signal equipment. A 10-foot wide multi-use path on the north side of Morris Street from Harding Street to Eagle Creek is also included in the improvements. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring 2022, with expected completion by the end of 2023.
