• As of Tuesday, Marion County judges have ordered a mask mandate for the City-County Building to help combat the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant. The county’s positivity rate has soared to 10.5%. Anyone doing business in the building must wear a face mask. The order also covers the Juvenile Justice Complex and the Traffic Court. Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have also risen sharply in the past few weeks.
• M.A. Dubbs will be the featured poet at the monthly poets Laureate of Lawrence on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The reading will be held at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Face masks must be worn during the reading.
• 10 East Arts offers free Thursday live music events at 7 p.m. at Intermissions Plaza, 3145 E. 10th St., next to the Rivoli Theater. Each week is a different group with various styles. The free concerts continue through Sept. 16. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic and enjoy the shows! In case of rain, the shows move indoors to the Hub at 3137 E. 10th St.
• The Little Flower neighborhood has organized a House Concert Series. The August show will start at 7 p.m. and feature local harpist Melissa Gallant and a selection of local comics. To find out where it will be, you need to check out their Facebook page and register via eventbrite.com. While technically this is a free concert, organizers are asking for a $20 donation in the tip jar to pay the performers.
• Market on the Pennsy will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 5529 Bonna Ave. The market offers vintage, handcrafted, and unique vendors. Check it out!
• It’s the last weekend for the Indiana State Fair, which closes Sunday, Aug. 22. For the closing weekend, there were will several animal judging shows, so there will likely be more animals in the barns than earlier in the fair. • The Indianapolis Fire Dept. will have a Showcase Festival on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Creek, 6430 S. Franklin Rd. There will be live demonstrations of firefighting equipment, free food, prizes, music, and activities for everyone!
• Al Hunter will once again be offering his famous Ghost Tours in October. Every Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., tours will begin at 10 S. Johnson next to the Irving Theater. Tickets are $20 each (cash only) and include a copy of Irvington Haunts: The Tour Guide. Advance tickets are available at the Magic Candle, 203 S. Audubon Rd. The tours are about 90% history and 10% ghost stories and always entertaining.
