INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) has added a community recycling drop-off site at Washington Square Mall, 10280 E. Washington St. and the removed the site located at Rhodius Park, 1720 W. Wilkins St.
Two roll-off recycling boxes will be placed in the mall’s southeastern parking lot, just east of Target and near the bridge over Grassy Creek. Signs have been installed at the Rhodius Park location to inform residents that the site has closed and explain how to find a different recycling location. The nearest recycling site to Rhodius Park is Old City Hall, 202 N. Alabama St.
In November, an additional recycling box was added to the existing drop-off recycling site at John Marshall Community High School, 10101 E. 38th St., and will remain there for the foreseeable future.
Residents are reminded that drop-off locations across the city are for disposing of recyclable materials only. All materials must be loose, clean, and dry and all cardboard boxes must be flattened before placing in a recycling box. Bagged recyclables cannot be processed as plastic bags get caught in machines and put employees at risk of potential hazards during the sorting process. The following materials are accepted at the community drop-off recycling sites free of charge: all colors of glass, No. 1 and No. 2 plastic containers (no styrofoam or plastic bags), aluminum and other metals, papers, cardboard.
Hazardous waste and many electronics can be recycled at one of the City’s ToxDrop locations. On the east side, ToxDrop is available on the third Saturday of the month from 9 a..m.-2 p.m. at the IMPD training facility at 10th and Post.
