INDIANAPOLIS — IndyGo’s next bus rapid transit line, the Purple Line, is set to begin construction in mid-2021. In the meantime, however, utility relocations may begin as early as February.
The Purple Line is a 15.2 mile line that connects Indianapolis with Lawrence. It will replace and improve the existing Route 39 local service. Much like the Red Line that goes through the heart of Indianapolis, the Purple Line is a rapid transit system using dedicated lanes and buses arriving at “stations” 10-12 minutes apart. According to current plans, the Purple Line will follow the Red Line north of the downtown Transit Center, and head east on 38th St., then head north on Post to the Ivy Tech building at Fort Ben. Several stations will be built, including stations at the State Fairgrounds, Keystone, Sherman, Arlington, Shadeland, Pendelton Pike and 56th St.
Construction of the Purple Line is expected through 2023.
