INDIANAPOLIS — Governor Eric Holcomb signed an extension of the public health emergency orders to Jan. 30. This is the fifth extension of the order, which was first issued in March 2020.
However, when lawmakers return to the Statehouse for the 2021 legislative session, some Republicans and Libertarians will seek to restrict emergency powers wielded by the governor. Specifically, they will be looking at executive orders such as those imposing restrictions due to COVID-19, the mask mandate, and limiting dining in restaurants in hard-hit counties. No details have been forthcoming from lawmakers on these efforts.
The City of Lawrence has also extended its local emergency order until Jan. 30 unless renewed. Access to city government buildings is restricted to essential personnel, among other restrictions.
