INDIANAPOLIS — Southeast Neighborhood Development, Inc. (SEND), a non-profit community development corporation, and Mayor Joe Hogsett have announced an award of $45,000 for a Technical Assistance Grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), a bureau of the United States Department of Commerce. The EDA grant combined with matching funds from SEND will total $90,000 to be invested in this project.
The grant will support a feasibility study of a business incubator for job creation in key industries critical to advancement of the Twin Aire community and the Central Indiana region. The study will examine regional job growth, emerging economic clusters, and real estate demand to help promote local economic growth and business expansion.
Beginning with an EDA planning process initiated by Citizens Energy Group in 2016, community members re-envisioned the former Coke plant site, a 140-acre brownfield that had blighted their neighborhood for years. The re-envisioning included the future home of the Community Justice Campus as well as vibrant mixed-use development.
