• The Kennedy-King Memorial Initiative recently selected Darryl Lockett as the executive director. Lockett is a native of Indianapolis, and has a lot of nonprofit management experience. The organization works to commemorate the historic speech delivered by Senator Robert F. Kennedy in Indianapolis on the night that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated, and to keep the principles of justice and inclusion alive.
• Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) recently received a grant from Regions Bank to the organization’s Inclusive Economic Opportunity Districts program that includes direct support to 10 neighborhood business districts as they develop their commercial and industrial corridors, expand existing businesses and attract new businesses.
• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor the “Reg & Co.” sale on: Thursday, Feb. 6, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 7, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Community Hospital East, 1500 N. • Get your tickets now for CatVideoFest 2020, which will be held at the IMAX at the Indiana State Museum on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. This is a compilation reel that shows cats at their best. • The Lawrence Police Department has moved its RX disposal drop-off box to the new police station, 5150 N. Post Rd. They accept unwanted prescription medications for safe disposal. Please do not dispose of needles in the box. The box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• On Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m., adults are invited to a presentation about how to recognize fraudulent offers and financial schemes. The presentation will be at the East 38th St. branch of the library, 5420 E. 38th St.
• The Little Choo-Choo That Thinks She Can! rolls back into the station next month for a few short weeks, running from Feb. 18 – March 1 in the IRT Cabaret. • There will be an open house to discuss the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan on Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 5-8 p.m. at Englewood Christian Church, 57 N. Rural. There will be a discussion about the various parts of the plan, and an opportunity to provide feedback. Childcare and translation will be available.
• Last call to drop off your Christmas trees for recycling! The recycling program will end Friday, Jan. 31. Please drop off live trees, stripped of ornaments and lights at Ellenberger Park (near the pool), Broad Ripple Park, or Garfield Park. The Parks Dept. mulches them up to provide mulch for the parks.
