INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian, collector, and preservationist Eric Grayson will host the August 17 Vintage Movie Nights at Garfield Park at 8 p.m. This month’s selection is Metropolis, a 1927 silent film, accompanied by a live piano score with Roger Lippincott (who often accompanies films screened by Grayson). The film stars Brigitte Helm and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. The film features fantastic special effects, groundbreaking for their time. The Germans have restored this film to most of its original length, but the original U.S. release by Paramount was a very different film, rewritten by Socialist writer Channing Pollock. Grayson will be running this very hard to find version. Admission $4, concessions $1. For more information, visit www.gpacarts.org or phone (317) 327-7135.
