INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Joe Hogsett announced this week that Rivoli Park is the city’s Neighborhood of the Month for October 2019. The Neighborhood of the Month program highlights Indianapolis neighborhood initiatives, recognizes outstanding community engagement, and uplifts investments in the area.
Rivoli Park is part of Indianapolis’ near eastside neighborhoods. Until the 1980s, Indianapolis’ Near Eastside was home to a booming manufacturing sector where generations of neighbors worked. With the closing of many of these facilities over the last three decades, the area struggled with challenges including unemployment, poverty, and physical deterioration. In 2012, the community developed a Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan to help guide its future. In 2015, the federal government designated the Indy East Promise Zone as an area that merited special attention from programs designed to improve livability and spur growth. They were recently announced as the third Lift Indy neighborhood.
In addition to the Lift Indy funding, the Lilly Endowment will also be investing in the area, which includes funding for the revitalization of the historic Rivoli Theatre.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about Rivoli Park. To nominate your neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month, visit: https://www.indy.gov/activity/neighborhood-of-the-Month.
