INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced its new awards for the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program. Through the CoC competitive grant process, Indianapolis was awarded $5.5 million in funding for local programs, the most the city has received over the past ten years. The grant will support 19 different projects, including two new projects that will bring more than $500,000 to the Indianapolis CoC system. The new projects will fund nearly $300,000 of housing for citizens experiencing or affected by homelessness.
The increased funding for the CoC program comes just a week after Mayor Joe Hogsett launched the Housing to Recovery Fund. This program will be funded in part by the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), which has pledged to raise more than $4 million to cover a variety of advocacy and support services.
Last year alone HUD awarded Indiana a record $22 million to statewide programs, projects, and activities working to reduce homelessness.
